When Christians speak
about the Holy Trinity we are referring to the Bible's teaching that
there is only one God, but that He exists in three persons. No
person who believes the Bible's teaching would ever say that there
are three gods. That would be considered heresy. The
Trinity is a word we use to describe what we find when we open the
pages of the Bible and see it describing three different persons as
having the attributes, power, and authority of God. These
three persons are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy
Spirit.
It may seem strange
to think that Jesus the Messiah, who lived and walked among people
in our world, is one of the persons of the Trinity. However,
when we think of our Creator's great love and mercy toward us, it is
easier to understand why He would come to us and reveal Himself to
us in human form, giving His own life as a sacrifice for us.
So in a way, part of understanding the Trinity is understanding that
while God is infinitely great and impossible to approach, He is also
One who takes the initiative to come to us, to seek and to find us,
to give Himself for us, and then to give us power to live our lives
for Him by the working of His Holy Spirit inside us. |
