Struggling with pride
When pride comes, then comes
dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.
(Proverbs 11:2 NASB)
Pride goes before destruction, And
a haughty spirit before stumbling.
(Proverbs 16:18 NASB)
A man's pride will bring him low,
But a humble spirit will obtain honor.
(Proverbs 29:23 NASB)
But let the brother of humble
circumstances glory in his high position; and let the rich man glory
in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.
For the sun rises with a scorching wind, and withers the grass; and
its flower falls off, and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed;
so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.
(James 1:9-11 NASB)
When he noticed how the guests
picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:
"When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place
of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been
invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say
to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have
to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take
the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you,
'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the
presence of all your fellow guests. For everyone who exalts himself
will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
