In a general way, God
is the Father of all living things, because He created them:
The eyes of
all look to you,
and you give them
their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the
desires of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all
his ways
and loving toward all he has made.
(Psalm 145:15-17)
More specifically,
though, God desires us to become His sons and daughters by faith in
Him. He is the only truly perfect Father, who welcomes us as a
father welcomes a son who comes home from a far country after living
a life of sin, just like Jesus described in this parable:
"But
while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled
with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around
him and kissed him." (Luke 15:20)
According to the
Bible, God longs to be a Father to you as well. He is waiting
for you to come to Him and respond to His compassion for you.
He wants to forgive you of your sins and love you as His own son or
daughter. The way to come to Him is too simple for most people
to understand or accept. The only way is to look to Jesus the
Messiah as your righteousness and stop trusting in your own good
