Jesus' claim to be the giver of eternal life

In the Holy Injil, Jesus makes many claims that He is the giver of eternal life.  He clearly states that those who accept His message and believe in Him are not judged for their sins but are granted eternal life.  He also claims that He gives His own life to "ransom" or purchase believers in Him.  In addition to this, Jesus says that He will be the one to raise people to life on the last day (the Day of Judgment).

Simon Peter, one of Jesus' disciples, recognized Jesus' authority to give eternal life when he said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."  John 6:68-69 (NIV)

Another claim Jesus makes is equally important to understand.  He says that those who reject His offer of eternal life by faith in Him are choosing to be condemned and receive the Creator's wrath.  All of these claims that Jesus makes are vital claims to consider:

Jesus has authority to give life     John 17:2-3 (NIV)                       "For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

Jesus is the source of eternal life     John 4:13-14 (NIV)                                                                       Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Those who believe will not be condemned     John 5:24 (NIV)                                                                    "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

Jesus is the true bread from heaven     John 6:32-33 (NIV)
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

Jesus is the resurrection and the life     John 11:25-26 (NIV)                                                                    Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Jesus is the only way     John 14:6 (NIV)                                                                                            Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Jesus gives His life for those who believe in Him     John 10:11 (NIV)                                                         "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

Jesus gives His life as a ransom     Matthew 20:26-28 (NIV)                                                                    "... whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Jesus will raise those who believe in Him     John 6:40 (NIV)                                                                  "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

The Hebrew Scriptures testify about Jesus     John 5:39-40 (NIV)                                                           "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."

Jesus' gift of eternal life cannot be taken away    John 10:28-30 (NIV)                                                       "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

The importance of believing in Jesus     John 3:16-18 (NIV)                                                                    "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

Believing in and rejecting Jesus     John 3:36 (NIV)                                                                                    "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."
