| Why "Muslims,
Let's Talk?"
Christianity and
Islam represent two great civilizations that have not only
influenced one another but owe a lot to
each other. In today's global context we are inseparably linked.
At the same time, both Christianity and
Islam are two great "missionary faiths." The followers of both
are charged with the responsibility to call people to consider the
claims that they make and decide to either accept or reject them. We are Christians. As Christians we openly
confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We desire that all
people have the opportunity to honestly consider the claims Jesus
made as recorded in the Gospels. We respect the right of
Muslims to proclaim Islam and to call for the same kind of decision
from non-Muslims. It goes without saying that sooner or later
our two faiths will come into contact with one another.
What will this interaction be like? Will
it be characterized by conflict, hatred, war? History gives us
plenty of examples of this very thing. Or will we see a
genuine desire to understand one another and to overcome the
stereotypes and misunderstandings that so many have? We
applaud the efforts made by many in the area of Muslim-Christian
dialogue and discussion.
This website is for Christians as much as it
is for Muslims. Many Christians have never met a Muslim
person and know very little about Islam. Generalizations about Muslims are very common and fear
of Muslim people is prevalent, even in the Church.
We believe that there is a need for
Christians and Muslims to start talking with one another.
Muslims, Let's Talk is an attempt to initiate this conversation
through
the internet. With your help, together we will succeed.
